4.00pm      Digital Processing and Wrap Eyewear, Elaine Grisdale (UK)
The first part of this course is a discussion of the disadvantages of conventional  processing methods versus digital processing, specifically in wrap sunwear. The next section defines digital processing, what it is and how it works.  This is followed by an in depth look at four distinct advantages provided by point file corrections and digital processing when dispensing wrap eyewear: eliminating cut-out problems, compensating for vertex changes, reducing distortion, and wrap corrections.

Elaine Grisdale, Association of British Dispensing Opticians
Elaine Grisdale FBDO FAAO qualified as a dispensing optician in 1985 before spending 12 years working in France as the International Professional Relations Manager for Opticianry & Optometry for the world’s leading ophthalmic lens manufacturer, Essilor International. In 1998 she was instrumental in creating Varilux University, the first international training centre dedicated to presbyopia and the ageing eye.

 

Since 2007 Elaine has been Head of Professional Services and International Development for the Association of British Dispensing Opticians helping to develop professional standards around the world.

 

A Liveryman with the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers, a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometrists, and a member of the Silmo Academy Scientific Committee in Paris, Elaine is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the European Academy for Optometry and Optics and the Director of Development of the International Opticians’ Association.

 

 

Steve Daras, Tafe NSW (OTEN)
Steve Daras is the optical dispensing course coordinator for Australia’s largest provider of optical dispensing education and training TAFE NSW (OTEN). He has been teaching optical dispensing full-time since 1995. He has been in the optical field since 1975, having managed a low vision clinic and an assistant manager for a national ophthalmic instruments company. He also ran a successful private practice for sixteen years. Steve has been teaching optical dispensing since 1978, first with the Guild of Dispensing Opticians and then at TAFE NSW with OTEN and Sydney Institute. He has written and/or reviewed all optical resources for TAFE NSW since 1995 and in 2014 co-authored the text books Practical Optical Dispensing (3rd edn) with David Wilson and Practical Optical Workshop (2nd edn) with David Wilson and Steve Stenersen. Steve has regularly lectured on dispensing throughout Australia, New Zealand and in China. He is currently a director of the Australian Dispensing Opticians Association (ADOA).

 

 

Dr Leigh Plowman, Optomly
Leigh Plowman (B.Optom) is a Clinical Optometrist and Online Marketer. He helps Independent Optometrists to create an online strategy and attract new patients.  Leigh graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2006. After graduating, Leigh worked at two Independent Practices, Acuity Eyecare (2007-2011) and Otway Optical (2012-). Leigh’s clinical interests include Dry Eye Management and Ocular Therapeutics. Leigh has supervised several visiting Optometry students from the University of Melbourne and Deakin University. Leigh helped Goggleman to create an eCommerce website for prescription sports glasses. This helped them to become number one in sports glasses in Australia.
